SoTiSaR 2.0-NIS: a data collection on soft tissue tumours

Launch of the non-interventional study SoTiSaR 2.0-NIS at SPOG member hospitals: Deeper knowledge of soft tissue tumours aims to provide the basis for new studies.

As part of SoTiSaR 2.0-NIS (Soft Tissue Sarcoma Registry, Non-Interventional Study), data are collected from patients with a soft tissue tumour in several countries. Soft tissue tumours (i.e. tumours of the fat, muscle and connective tissue) are among the five most common cancers in children and adolescents. There are countless subtypes, and they can occur anywhere in the body.

Collecting disease data internationally

In SoTiSaR 2.0-NIS, the researchers systematically collect and analyse data on frequency, disease progression, prognosis, and long-term effects. The study is “non-interventional”, meaning that treatment continues as normal.

The information obtained can be used by the researchers to plan clinical studies aimed at optimising treatment. The long-term goal is to improve the survival of those affected and to identify the most effective targeted treatments.

Finding better treatments

Childhood cancer is rare. To collect sufficient data in research projects, most studies are conducted on an international scale. This is also the case for SoTiSaR 2.0-NIS. The more information the researchers can collect and analyse, the more likely they are to find better treatments.

SPOG is pleased about the launch of SoTiSaR 2.0-NIS at its first member hospitals. Children, adolescents, and young adults with a soft tissue tumour can now participate in the non-interventional study.
