The 2023 annual report has been published

The annual report is an opportunity to pause for a moment and reflect on what has been achieved over the past year. We are proud to report that 177 children and adolescents were newly treated in clinical trials last year – giving them access to the most effective therapy.

In 2023, SPOG was able to offer 18 clinical trials and 11 research projects in the nine hospital departments in Switzerland that treat children and adolescents with cancer. 177 young and very young patients newly participated in clinical trials. In addition, 110 publications in which researchers from SPOG member institutions were actively involved were published in scientific journals.

These numbers show that SPOG’s extensive clinical research programme continued to thrive in 2023. And it continues to develop: the SPOG General Assembly approved four new study protocols based on the carefully evaluated proposals of the protocol working group.

There is a lot of work behind this, and not just in the member hospitals. The work of the SPOG Coordinating Center can be seen, for example, in the submission of safety reports and reports on changes in study process to the ethics committees (95 reports) and Swissmedic (44 reports).

Our aim is to allow as many children with cancer as possible to receive treatment within a trial – even for rare types of cancer.

We would like to thank all our donors, partners and supporters – it is they who make the comprehensive clinical cancer research programme for children and adolescents in Switzerland possible. Together, we will continue our research in 2024 so that children and adolescents with cancer have a future.
