Member institutions

All the hospital departments in Switzerland that specialise in childhood cancer have joined to form SPOG with the aim of advancing clinical cancer research for children and adolescents. These nine institutions are located in the university children’s hospitals in Bern, Basel, Zurich, Lausanne and Geneva and in the children’s hospitals in St. Gallen, Lucerne, Aarau and Bellinzona. They collaborate closely with the aim of refining treatment options and improving the quality of life and chances of a cure for affected children.

Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) are the main hospital in Geneva. They integrate all the medical specialities within their 70 departments, which are headed by professors or researchers in the faculty of medicine at the University of Geneva. The Paediatric Haematology-Oncology Unit at Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) looks after children (0 to 18 years) with cancer and blood disorders. In addition to clinical and outpatient services, it has a research laboratory recognised for its work in paediatric oncology and haematology. Research focuses on blood disorders, leukaemia/lymphoma and solid tumours. An experienced team covers the entire treatment spectrum of oncology.

The Department of Paediatric Oncology and Haematology at the Children’s Hospital run by Cantonal Hospital Lucerne provides highly specialised medicine (HSM) for children and adolescents with cancer in Central Switzerland. The children’s hospital is one of the biggest establishments of its kind in Switzerland, with a large number of specialised paediatric departments that are required to treat patients with a diagnosis of cancer.

The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Switzerland is one of three independent children’s hospitals in the country. It is a regional centre of excellence providing the highest level of medical care.
