Glo-BNHL, a clinical trial for patients with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Glo-BNHL has just been launched at the SPOG member hospital in Lausanne. This clinical trial offers a new treatment option for children and adolescents with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma that does not respond to treatment or has relapsed.

Lymphomas are malignant tumours of the lymphatic system and account for approximately 10% of all childhood cancers. One subgroup is B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL). Treatment is particularly challenging when the disease does not respond to treatment or relapses. The current treatment is effective in only around one third of affected children, adolescents and young adults. Paediatric oncologists are therefore urgently seeking new and effective treatments.

A trial design that adapts to new developments

The new Glo-BNHL study is a global clinical trial with an innovative trial design. Researchers continually assess which new treatments have proven effective in adult patients with B-NHL or a similar disease and may also be suitable for children and adolescents. These treatments are then tested as part of Glo-BNHL.

The trial investigates several new treatments simultaneously, meaning that different treatment arms are open. Less effective treatments are rapidly replaced thanks to this adaptive design, which allows multiple new agents to be evaluated and supports a swift response to promising new treatments.

The trial is now open at Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV). Given the small number of patients (approximately one per year in Switzerland), Glo-BNHL will be conducted exclusively at this SPOG member hospital.
