13 September is International Wills Day. It is a good opportunity to take some time to consider a question that many people prefer to put off: What should eventually happen to everything I have worked for?
Drawing up a will is not about thinking about the end but rather about what matters to you. By planning your estate, you provide clarity for your family, help prevent disputes and can use the freely disposable portion of your estate to support causes that matter to you.
Every year, around 350 children and adolescents in Switzerland develop cancer. Almost 90% of children and adolescents with cancer now survive the disease. Nevertheless, some families still lose their children. That is why childhood cancer research remains essential. Further progress depends on people who support this research and help sustain it over the long term. As a non-profit organisation, SPOG coordinates and is responsible for clinical cancer research for children and adolescents in Switzerland. By leaving a bequest or legacy, you can support this work beyond your lifetime.
Good to know:
- If you don’t have a will, the law will govern your entire estate. If you do have a will, you can decide how part of your estate is distributed – for example, in support of SPOG’s childhood cancer research.
- As a non-profit organisation, SPOG is exempt from inheritance tax. Your contribution will go entirely towards research.
- You can write your own will by hand and amend it at any time.
