A musical symbol of hope: a charity concert to mark SPOG’s anniversary year

With over 300 guests, five choirs and the premiere of the anniversary video, the charity concert made for a memorable evening in support of childhood cancer research.

On Saturday, 25 April 2026, the Swiss Paediatric Oncology Group (SPOG) held a charity concert at the French Church in Bern. The event, which takes place every two years, marked SPOG’s 50th anniversary and attracted over 300 visitors.

A varied programme featuring five choirs

The musical programme was provided by five choirs representing different styles. The “Dreif-Gospel Chor Bern” performed gospel pieces, the “BOLLITT’o misto” choir presented a wide-ranging repertoire spanning various genres, and the “Chiao-Ai Chor” built a musical bridge between cultures with songs from East Asia. The “Jodlerklub Maiglöggli Jegenstorf” brought traditional Swiss sounds to the stage.

The children’s choir of the International School of Berne added a special touch. The young singers brought a sense of light-heartedness to the evening and reminded us how important prospects and hope are for children. Another highlight was the premiere of SPOG’s new anniversary video.

A look behind the scenes

An event for our donors was held for the first time in the run-up to the concert. At the Inselspital, participants were given an insight into everyday hospital life and the work of the SPOG. Over coffee and cake, there was an opportunity to chat. The programme was rounded off with a guided tour of the French Church and its surroundings. The donors then attended the concert.

Working together for childhood cancer research

The charity concert demonstrated just how much can be achieved through shared commitment. The singers performed on stage free of charge, lending their voices to a good cause. The many visitors contributed to furthering childhood cancer research through their donations.

SPOG would like to express its heartfelt thanks to all those involved, guests and donors. Special thanks also go to the sponsors and advertisers, whose valuable support made this event possible. In total, over 7,000 Swiss francs will go towards childhood cancer research.

This evening will therefore be remembered not only as a musical experience, but also as a powerful symbol of hope for children and young people with cancer.
